3/3 So reporters get lots of tips, especially from other reporters. I'm sure @MariaPClark1 had a lot going on, but she followed up on it...and she wrote a story about it -- EVEN AFTER LOSING HER JOB. So that is why you should hire her. She's great. nola.com/news/2019/05/l…

Today all Albertans will have an opportunity to decide who they would like to serve them for the next four years.

For many, the primary issue will be the economy. I can’t fault someone for prioritizing that. There are some communities that have been hit harder than others and addressing that concern may be the most important and immediate issue for them.
I completely understand why someone would focus on the economy because for most of my life, I have put the economy above any other issue.

Okay so a few weeks ago, my friend gave me a mattress to upgrade the one in my guest room. So I decided to pay the good karma forward...
...and give away my old mattress for free.

But it turns out, it's actually tough to give away a free mattress!

I got lots of interest, but people would have trouble wrangling a large enough vehicle, so they would cancel.

Finally...
...I listed the free mattress in a faceboop group called Bunz.

I quickly got a message from a guy who said he lived nearby.

I asked him, "Do you have a vehicle that will fit a double mattress and box spring?"

He said, "No. But I can carry them."

I’m glad NYT took up the implications of the transcript of Manafort’s closed hearing, which clearly shows the SCO is still focused on Manafort and Kilimnik as a bridge across the Atlantic Ocean. nytimes.com/2019/02/10/us/…
At the same time I’m confused that the discussion of the private polling shared with Kilimnik is so brief and garbled, relative to the details in the transcript, and why they don’t deal with the apparent contradiction between the transcript and their source from a few weeks ago.
In an earlier story, a NYT source said the polling data was shared in *spring* 2016 and directed to two Ukrainian oligarchs w quite long surnames. The transcript says it was shared on August 2 2016 and directed to someone with a 9 character surname. See: emptywheel.net/2019/02/09/pau…

A few weeks ago, I wrote about a $20,243 bike crash bill from Zuckerberg San Francisco General.

In light of my story, the hospital is reducing that bill to $200.

We have about 2,000 bills now in our ER database. Most of them I won’t get to write about. But hundreds of them are stories of people struggling with unfair, high medical bills (3/X)

Back in 2016, @jBenson wrote an in-depth article "Inside the Troubled Development of Star Citizen" for @Kotaku_UK

It gave a very inside look into the development which - my blogs aside - had all the warning signs that the project was FUBAR.

Prior to that, only The Escapist had come close to doing any sort of research into the project's demise.

@TheEscapistMag got threatened with legal action by CIG. That got settled, and the article was later removed. But we have archives

That Benson article, had hints of how the Star Citizen "prototype" came to be, who helped create it etc.

It mentioned how Crytek devs like Sean Tracey, Paul Reindell and Hannes Appell became involved in the project.

It didn't go into Crytek's eventual extensive involvement

software will eat the world, but there is currently a version conflict in the build/deploy system. also, one of the disks have been filled with error logs, and an external service is down.
there is also something funky happening with on-prem DNS, but honestly: who has the time to figure out stuff like that.
anyway ... the person who wrote the build system was crushed by a server rack several years ago, so nobody really understands this unholy mess—better just try to clear all caches, and restart once more.
