Today, Virginia showed up!

It can be hard to knock doors when you're fasting for #Ramadan - a dry fast with no water until sunset.

So our interfaith partners showed up to help. Along with the unstoppable Sen. @JenniferBoysko, we launched our interfaith canvass.
Then we dispersed through the district to knock doors 'till the sun went down!

Our interfaith partners drove fasting Muslim volunteers door to door to ease their burden. Along the way, many new friendships were born. These women are forces of nature!
They live, walk, and breathe the idea of showing up. This is an example of the kind of Virginia we can build.

Thanks to Marilyn, Suzanne, Sandy, Pat, Linda, Farhan, Zaid, Gulshan, Uzma, Isra, Aya, Mohammed, and of course my better half Rabiah and our son Issa for showing up!
After sunset, we gathered at Cafe Rice and Kabob to break fast together. The energy was palpable, low blood sugar notwithstanding!

This is real power. Writ large, it's how we'll take our state.and our country back.

Just show up. It's where power lies.

In about 1 week voters of the 87th District will head to the polls to choose the Democratic nominee for the House of Delegates.

It's only been 5 short months since we announced our campaign.
We have earned the support of Virginia leaders, elected officials, grassroots advocates, and organizations that have been on the frontlines fighting for human rights, including our Union brothers and sisters.
Where VA's GOP has been escalating their attacks human rights and where marginalized communities have the most at stake, our message has been simple: people of Northern Virginia need for our next representative to be more than just a reliable Democratic vote. We need an advocate.

We're honored to receive our third union endorsement, this time from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 26!

It's an honor, yes - but I remain painfully aware of the responsibility these endorsements entail.
Powerful forces break up workers' collective bargaining power, still feeding on an outdated narrative of employer *versus* employee.

Workers shoulder risk just as employers. When working together, incentives are harmonized and business produces more than the sum of its parts.
If they shoulder risk, they deserve benefits and protection from bad actors who persist due to this confrontational narrative.

And for those of you who don't speak/read Arabic: the Islamic month of #Ramadan begins today or tomorrow, depending. This thread contains a quick Q&A of common questions:
Q: What is Ramadan?
A: It's the September of the Muslim calendar. More relevant: during this month, able Muslim are expected to fast from Fajr prayer (~sunrise) until Magreb (~sunset). Fast means abstaining from consumption, for example in food and drink, and temptation.
Q: How long is Ramadan?
Ramadan can be 29 or 30 days. The Muslim calendar is a lunar calendar, so the start and end of Ramadan are commonly decided by sightings of the crescent after the new moon, or in some countries, calculations of lunar phases.

Is there anything unnatural about naturalnews(dot)com? This site calls itself "The world's top news source on natural health," a subject which starts with anti-vaccine rhetoric and branches out into #FalseFlag theories about, well, pretty much everything.

First, let's look at the titles of the actual articles. These two figures are based on 13532 titles from 2017-09-01 to 2019-04-07. Major topics: #antivax barflegarble, "shadowbanning" by social media sites, and mass shootings (with accompanying conspiracy theories, of course.)
We downloaded tweets linking to naturalnews(dot)com, yielding 5375 tweets from 2439 accounts in the past 10 days. 690 tweets (12.8%) came from 70 accounts (2.9%) flagged as mostly/fully automated, and another 209 (3.9%) were posted by 46 partially automated accounts (1.9%).
