They say you can’t overfeed wild birds, but look at this chonker
This one is particularly pretty
The birds are eating an 18-inch tube a food a day. Bird seed has become an actual line item in my budget.
So turning my backyard into a bird and pollinator zone has been a huge success. Probably seen 10-12 species of birds today, bees, butterflies, two rats, and a mouse.

Have yet to put in the mason been and insect hotels, that’s probably next.
Also today I pulled up all the foxtail in front of my neighbor’s house and sowed poppies and milkweed because I am a freak.

1/ I set some personal ecological goals this past year, here’s how I’m doing...
2/ so frustrated with all the trash in SF and on the beaches, I pledged to do more than just complain #onhere and to @SF311. So do a bimonthly pickup of a few blocks, at least once a month beach clean/hike, adopted 10 storm drains. Can feel Sisyphean but maybe 60% accomplished?
3/ pledged to turn backyard into bird and pollinator zone. Birds, mission accomplished (though hope they take to my bird houses). Pollinators, maybe 40%? Just planted a ton. Need butterfly puddler, insect/bee habitat hotels.

CBP arrests individuals it finds along the border and transfers them to ICE custody for processing, where they begin outright their civil immigration proceedings (leaving out criminal prosecution/Operation Streamline—for now, Sessions seems intent on prosecuting all parents). /2
If CBP encounters an unaccompanied minor, they are then transferred to ORR custody. Thanks to something known as the 1997 Flores settlement, the US has to follow certain minimum standards for detaining minors: if possible, it must release children to a family member/sponsor. /3
