See, so this is what happens when the showrunners decide “eh, let’s just drop all of the fantasy/mystical elements and give viewers what they WANT for the final 3 episodes.”

And what leaves me spitting mad here is that I don’t think GRRM is ever going to finish the books. This final season is going to be the ending we’re left with.
As a fan of sci-fi and fantasy, the wasted potential here is just staggering.

In isolation, sure, the episode delivered a nice “war is hell/power corrupts/there are no real heroes” punch.
But this is a show in which there IS absolute evil, and there ARE heroes fighting against it. (Two episodes ago, in fact.)

Rather than sorting through the complicated tension of a world where power corrupts, but also there are evil wights trying to end all humanity, the showrunners have thrown up their hands and said “let’s just pretend it’s House of Cards - medieval edition.”
