There are a lot of things about the current attack on women's rights that really upset me, but religion based pro-life hypocrisy is something that isn't touched on enough. ( a thread ) #AbortionIsAWomansRight

I'm not talking about the people who are pro-life just for themselves. I'm talking about the people who use their religious beliefs as the basis to take away someone else's rights. People who shame you at clinics and support candidates who will further their religious agenda.

People who want to ban abortions claim that it's God's plan and only God creates life as reasons abortion should be illegal. This unwanted baby is what GOD wanted, so you cannot terminate the pregnancy, health or desires of the mother be damned. There is no place for science.

Then, when these religion motivated pro-life individuals find themselves struggling to conceive, they often turn to fertility treatments. IUI. IVF. It's okay for God to want for someone else to have a baby, but it's not okay for him to say that you just can't?

All of a sudden, conception has nothing to do with God. Science is amazing! Conveniently, THIS has been God's plan all along. It can't be his plan that you're just infertile and have to adopt one of the children you selfishly demanded be born. He can't be guiding you to foster.

No, when it's convenient, those who tout God to to support their pro-life beliefs will happily usurp him or interpret the Bible as they please and go to the ends of the earth to make a baby. And what about the embryos they create but don't use?

Do these people not argue that life begins at conception? But these people, who will scream at you not to abort, will allow their precious extra embryos to sit in a freezer. Eventually they sign off for them to be destroyed or used for science. I'm sorry, is that not abortion?

My heart goes out to anyone dealing with infertility. I believe that you should make your family in any way that you see fit and have every option. But if you're currently going through fertility treatments and consider yourself pro-life, I hope you take time to think about it.

Why are you now above the rules you want women to follow? If you can bypass God to make a baby with science (I don't care how much you pray about it - it's science), why can't you allow women to make their own choices for their life as well?

By going through fertility treatments, you've already proven that you don't want the babies you're trying to make women have. You claim their baby's life is precious, but it's not precious enough for you to bring them into your home instead of having procedures to have your own.

I'm aware that there are some pro-life individuals who put their money where their mouth is. They adopt. They foster. Hell, some even adopt embryos and carry them. I respect them for their consistency, but they are the minority.

But the rest of you? You're hypocrites. You pick and choose when God's plans and rules apply to you and your situation but those same plans and rules must steadfastly apply to other women. If you can pick and choose for yourself, why can't you extend that to other women?

These are YOUR beliefs. That is YOUR God. They should ONLY apply to YOU and YOUR SITUATION. That is pro-choice. It's saying, "My faith makes me not choose abortion for myself, but I can't and shouldn't choose for someone else."
