So excited to introduce the CFPB Student Loan Integrity & Transparency Act with my friends & colleagues @RepBonamici, @SenatorTomUdall, @SenWarren, & @SenSherrodBrown. We worked really hard on this bill to protect student borrowers from predatory lenders. porter.house.gov/media/press-re…
The bill requires @usedgov to work with @CFPB’s student loan ombudsman - the top official serving as an internal advocate for students struggling to repay loans - to supervise lenders & mandates that the office always be staffed, which means no more partisan staffing cuts.
This is why we need the CFPB Student Loan Integrity & Transparency Act. We can’t police lenders trying to cheat students if we can’t see what they’re doing, and @usedgov under @BetsyDeVosED is ordering lenders to refuse to share info with regulators. politico.com/story/2019/05/…

I promised OC families that I'd fight to drive down healthcare costs and improve the quality of care. Today I called on @HHSGov to investigate corrupt practices in the dialysis industry that are putting patients’ lives at risk and making care more expensive.
I've heard complaints from patients that the largest dialysis providers are using their financial influence over a patient assistance organization, the American Kidney Fund, to push patients toward more expensive insurance AND away from transplants. nytimes.com/2016/12/25/bus…
Experts agree that a kidney transplant offers the best outcome for an individual with kidney disease, but this hurts the profits of dialysis providers, especially if they are receiving high payments from commercial insurers.

Auer Jones responded to my first letter to DeVos, in which I asked for help for the students of Western State, located in my district. She told me they “moved quickly” to assist these students, knowing full-well the role she & the Department played in Argosy's unraveling.
Sickened to learn that the Department may have been in on the scam and may be responsible for tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds paid to con artists—con artists so confident in their scams that they made up a jingle about having the Department in their pocket.

Just learned about this tonight. It's shocking. In 2007, a law took effect: if you worked in public services & made student loan payments on time for 10 years, you'd get loan forgiveness. In 2017, first wave of people became eligible. Guess what Trump did?

Out of 30,000 public service applicants, the Trump/Devos team forgave the student loans of only 96 people. That's a 99.68% rejection rate. Can you imagine deciding 10y ago to take lower salary & work in public service, counting on loan forgiveness—only to get this rejection now?
A friend of mine, encouraged by the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, has been working in public interest jobs for years—and is now suddenly rethinking life plans. Right now, there are 550,000 student borrowers in the program. + who knows how many who'd planned to enroll.

Just after Thanksgiving last year, I started feeling under the weather. I was tired all the time. I chalked it up to working a long string of shifts and upped my caffeine intake. After all, I told myself..."I never get sick"!

Then, I started spiking fevers. I lost my appetite. I could feel something was wrong, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I convinced myself it was viral and that it would pass with time and rest. I continued stacking antipyretics.
