It doesn't take a genius to see that @KICDKenya and Twaweza have been advised by a PR agency to hit the media waves with a bang and defend the colonial, racist new education system #competencybasedcurriculum
For the last two years, @KICDKenya pretended we didnt exist, and they avoided being on the same panels as us. They hoped that giving us the silent treatment would make us stop talking. But how can we, when we are the where #competencybasedcurriculum rubber meets the road?
But the truth prevailed. All the things we predicted would happen have happened, and even worse than we could have imagined. But instead of changing their minds, like good educators and scholars should, @KICDKenya is continuing this historical mistake #competencybasedcurriculum
But when history reads this, it will judge not only the government, but the glitzy legacy media, especially journalists of @citizentvkenya @NationMediaGrp, for taking the sides against the children of Kenya #competencybasedcurriculum
Because how, for 2 years, have these journalists not read any of the documents on the new system? And many havent been married that long. The tabloids keep telling us about their babies. Dont they care where their kids go to school? #competencybasedcurriculum
And worse, legacy media does this very boring structure of conversations, where the only question they ask is "what has government done? Surely, we should have learned from the mess of #Decision2017 that the answers are dominated by government. #competencybasedcurriculum
Remember the tyranny of evidence, where IEBC, and the Supreme Court decision of 2013, required citizens to produce evidence of rigging at a scale which only the governent could. And IEBC arrogantly told us that if elections were rigged, we citizens should provide evidence.
Instead of IEBC being told to produce the evidence that elections were fairly conducted, wananchi were told to produce evidence that IEBC didnt. Yet the evidence the petitioners needed had to come from the same goveenment they were petitioning against. #competencybasedcurriculum
Waiguru did the same madharau to us. Instead of telling Kenyans who looted NYS, she kept telling us that if she stole, we should tell her where and explain how she had not been arrested. It was we, who are not in her ministry, who had to show evidence #competencybasedcurriculum
Our clergy played the same game a few weeks ago. But worse. They told us that they could not refuse donations from politicians without court convictions. Yet we all know that this government hasnt jailed big fish. #sadakaboycott #competencybasedcurriculum
So grilling Sossion about government data on preparation is bad journalism. @HusseinMohamedg should have questioned Sossion on the study done by KNUT. Not told Sossion to respond to government accusations. GoK has GoK data, and GoK wont give it out #competencybasedcurriculum
So when glitzy media reduces #competencybasedcurriculum conversation to government preparation and training of teachers, they are essentially locking out our voices, because we dont have the evidence of preparation (or not) at a scale that @EduMinKenya has
Surely, how am I, a mere lecturer, supposed to go round the country and prove that the training of teachers has been done? And why does media expect me, and not their own journalists, to get it? #competencybasedcurriculum
And yet, I've asked very basic questions that dont require a lot of data to answer, and to this day, no one in GoK has answered those questions. Many times on TV. Surely, why ask about big data when you can't get answers on smaller questions?

So history will judge #competencybasedcurriculum and Kenya's media very badly. It wont be another 8-4-4 story where there was very little room for dissent during the KANU era, despite @KenMijungu's attempts last night to draw parallels.
History will judge Kenya's public officials so bureaucratic and out of date, completely unprepared for the 21st century global resistance against privatizarion of public education, yet ironically claiming to give us a 21st century #competencybasedcurriculum
And history will judge Kenya's media as complicit in the destruction of our public education and the entrenchment of inequality.

#competencybasedcurriculum will be the story of the malign incompetence of the Kenyan elite. 😢
Binyavanga, whom we mourn today, decribed this incomptence. He said that when middle class is asked about innovation, they say "oh, we're implementing policy so that people can have jobs."

It's as if Binyavanga was talking about CBC.
