It’s interesting how many things can be reduced to “I stopped playing because it wasn’t fun anymore”, particularly in the form of “the quality of other players dropped and I couldn’t do much about that.”

- why people leave relationships, jobs, communities (both IRL and online)
Scrolling through the replies of folks with 100k-1m followers is ominous to me. The sheer volume of nitpicking and disagreeableness from the vast horde of even well-intentioned nerds must be so exhausting and have a stifling effect on the playful-creative mind
I think if you still wanna play a “public” game at that point you have to use alts or be mobbed

Apart from that - I find myself returning to the importance of building personal relationships with individuals. Find people you can play well with, and treasure them for life
Circling back - I can imagine some people saying, “Fun??!?!? You think I work for fun???? I’m here because I have to be, or ill go broke and my life will be ruined!!!”

- fair enough, though actually i think it’s fundamentally the same system, just with a different imagined scale
The complications around fun and suffering are too complex for me to tease apart in a few tweets, maybe I’ll try an essay.

That said, I think Finite & Infinite Games is on to something here:
