It’s odd. And a couple people have shared similar observations (eg @andybudd ). But I’m seeing increasing kinship and solidarity between developers and designers ... and shared agitation among those disciplines wrt product management.

Wonder why?
One thought. As more designers and developers work together directly they realize they have a lot more in common than previously thought.

Example ... both fear the MVP bait and switch.
Maybe ... as those disciplines get more product savvy, their standards go way up?

How a single shared infra/ops team bring an org to its knees, while no one does anything about the problem? The problem is so obvious and solvable. Well...

1. Rampant Tetris playing puts these teams in a no-win situation. Trust drops.
2. When trust drops, it is hard to hire up. So the shared team stays perpetually under-supported. It is commonly seen as a "management issue", so more human load balancers are brought in to "fix it".

"Oh well, you know Ops...dropping balls again"
3. Then...more elaborate Tetris playing. Big quarterly planning sessions, dependency bingo, "rough estimates", 20%-20%-20%-20%-20% splits, too busy to actually slow down and assess needs/actual problems

I would never ask a team/individual to do this on a regular basis...but damn, the impact it would have. Or not? Maybe that is the problem.
It feels that there's always this point where the reality *is* in the room. The writing is on the wall. But teams find a way to rationalize/explain it all away.
Another challenge is that the red square (context switching/restarting) is very easy to miss. You can pretend to be effective. And also blame yourself, not want to believe you're that vulnerable.

PdMtip: stop Tetris playing...trying to "fit work in" based on estimates/forecasts, quarter-packing, sprint-packing, micro-managing individual developer backlogs, engaging contractors to work around teams, etc.

1) it isn't your job
2) it makes the situation worse

#OBSERVATIONS: A few thoughts in reflecting on the Trump legal team letter that argues the President is above the law.

1. TRUMP'S LAWYERS BASICALLY CONCEDE HE OBSTRUCTED JUSTICE.

They aren't saying he didn't obstruct. They're saying because he's the President, it's not a crime.
2. TRUMP'S TEAM LEAKED THE LETTER, DESPITE TRUMP ACCUSING MUELLER'S TEAM OF THE LEAK.

Trump tweeted this week that he doesn’t have time to focus on the Russia investigation b/c he's so busy president-ing...

WHICH IS THE SAME ARGUMENT MADE IN THE LETTER.

Here's Trump accusing Mueller's team of leaking...

We know the Special Counsel doesn't leak.

It's NOT A COINCIDENCE that the claims in the letter mirror Trump's tweets this week. Once again, just like the #49Questions by Sekulow, it's from Trump's side.
