Here’s a thoughtful response from @ilyaimy to my critique of Sofar Sounds concerts. I agree playing for exposure can help, but bands deserve pay too. ilyaimy.com/wordpress/2019…
Record labels bargain to get bands a fair deal from streaming apps. But bands exploited by Sofar are too small/fragmented to benefit from collective bargaining. Press criticism got Sofar to raise payouts in the past, so clearly it knows it’s in the wrong too. My response:
