Luke 19. Zacchaeus: that wee little man who climbed the sycamore tree "trying to see who Jesus was but he was not able because of the crowd."We've drawn so many spectators, parading all our discord. Can't imagine those watching from the branches can see who Jesus is in our crowd.
In Luke 19, no one in the crowd was worth Zacchaeus climbing a tree to see but Jesus. Pretty sure the disciples were with Him. Not 1 person yelled, "Hey, that dude right there, that's Peter!" Everybody's face faded to gray in the scene except Christ's. Only one face worth seeing.
If you're watching this mess, trying to see who Jesus is, don't confuse Him with us. He's the one standing at the base of that tree, below the branch where you're perched. He's calling you to come down from where you're spectating. He wants to stay at your house. You'll like Him.
Luke 19:5 says Zacchaeus hurried down, welcomed Him joyfully. He knew from the 1st glimpse Jesus would be good company. Maybe even fun. Worthy company for sure. Of course, people didn't like it, Jesus going to stay with a sinful man and all. They'd forgotten they were sinful too.
So happy to tell you that Jesus is willing to stay with sinful people who let Him in. He stayed with me. Made my heart His home. And staying with me, He changed me. I'm not the woman I once was. Nobody's condemnation changed me. Jesus did. He was worth what I needed to let go of.
"I'll give 1/2 my possessions to the poor, Lord. And if I've extorted anything from anyone, I'll pay back 4X as much." That was Zacchaeus to Jesus. You see, that poor man who thought he was rich had found the real fortune & former things that had meant so much now meant nothing.
It's Jesus. No one else in the crowd is worth seeing. No one else in the crowd is worth taking home with you. No one else in the crowd changes you for good. So, let people talk. He's never gone to the home of a single soul who was worthy of His company. They've just forgotten.
