Deluded if he thinks he can rewind back to 2008/2012 Boris Johnson without skipping a beat. He’s spent years causing howls of outrage from the very same people he won over as Mayor. Heineken Boris is, I suspect, largely a spent force. More like marmite now.
Also I’ve never been as impressed as others with his record of winning in London. He won against the backdrop of a deeply unpopular Labour prime minister at the fag end of an unpopular Labour govt against a tired and unpopularish Livingstone. He certainly wouldn’t win now.
Oh and the Evening Standard (hugely influential) determined to put him in and oust Livingstone at any cost.
