Interesting results from the Danish elections #fv19 As expected Danish People's Party (hard right ) collapsed. Some appears to have gone to three new parties (on harder right still), some to conseravtives and some to the social democrats, who have v much moved onto DPP's turf...
Quite disappointing for social democrats who had hoped to do better, not least after compromising so much on DPP agenda. Still thanks to green gains they will go into government..
In terms of dealing with far right, internalising their agenda has been quite effective. But then, they've just popped up somewhere in another form, elsewhere, even further to the right than the DPP were...
I'm watching Danish election night and though I can't understand it from what I can gather all of the party leaders are now off to parliament to have a debate about what just happened in the election. Interesting approach.
#fv19 is a lot like Borgen but everyone is approximately 30% less attractive
This election night programme from DK1 is v slick but honestly they don’t know they’re born. It’s not even half midnight over there and all the results are in. Here we’d still be in the 3rd hour of talking about the exit poll and hugely over-analysing two seats from Sunderland.
Interesting things going on in Copenhagen. Mette Frederiksen (leader of Social Democrats and incoming PM) saying in victory speech she’ll rely on votes from the right wing bloc sometimes. Prob means she’s going ahead with her hardline approach on integration/immigration.
Ok this is so weird. It seems the debate has started. in the Folketing (Parliament) chamber. Two tv presenters. With party leaders. Having a debate about the results. On election night.

This is...different.
Ok so it seems the party leaders they are literally pitching possible coalitions to each other. Live on TV. From the parliamentary chamber.

Meanwhile earlier I spent 3 hours with a glass trying to listen in to a private hustings to decide our next pm.

Take me to 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰 #fv19
To think we can’t even get prime ministerial debates going in this bloody country. They’re just casually doing a live broadcast from Parliament teasing out who will form the next govt.
They’re all just having a nice chat. All terribly civilised. I’ve seen Sky News paper reviews with more bad blood.
It is so weird to see political disagreement which isn’t completely visceral. You know, a fundamentally stable political order. I remember that.
Oh baby now we’re talking.
I would very much like to be in the Valgcenter.
And that’s the two most recent former prime ministers, on the programme, discussing the results all evening.

Imagine how inconceivable it would be having Cameron and Brown sat there all night. Totally different political culture. So much less pompous and deferential.
And all done and dusted by 0130.

Looks like a Social Democrat minority govt...all in all their gamble paid off. They won votes from the DPP, lost votes to more liberal parties but they knew they’d prop them up anyway. Other social democratic parties will be watching...
Oh and @DR1TV I’m very much up for coming along to the next Valgcenter if you’ll have me...
For anyone interested in the Danish elections, this is a fantastic data visualisation, really gets to the heart of the results (just get Chrome to translate) #fv19 dr.dk/nyheder/webfea…
Also, turnout was 84%. Impressive. And they're all concerned it's fallen from last time (86%).

This is a country which takes its democracy seriously.
