Well, that's about half a million quid that could have gone to good causes wasted on a vanity project.
Ball has crowdfunded for two short hearings, one in the High Court and one in the Magistrates' Court, well over double what the Wightman case - which involved around a dozen hearings all in the higher courts - cost. Will he provide a full account of where the money has gone?
In a constrained funding environment for public interest litigation, crowdfunding serves a vital role. Clear since 2016 that this case was hopeless. Cases, like this, that peddle snake oil to the desperate undermine public confidence in crowdfunding and harm the public interest.
I have repeatedly called for regulation - by the professional bodies and/or Government - of crowdfunding. This really needs to happen or justice will be denied to even more. waitingfortax.com/2017/11/17/the…
