The biggest evidence Crazy Rich Asians changed things for Asians in Hollywood isn’t how many other movies have sprung up in the past year, because, uh, it takes more than a year to make a movie. It’s the fact that so many creators are now getting meetings they never had before.
It’s vital to self-audit and especially to reaffirm how important it is for us to wedge open doors in the open position. But it seems weird to me to build a piece around questioning the impact of a single film vs centuries of racist history, less than a year after its release.
