This is one of those examples where subtlety/nuance gets lost. Yes, the demonstration had value, no, it doesn't mean what you think it means. Kids didn't hack either election systems or an exact clone of an election system.
I don't know if it was "hype" so much as the impossibility of crafting a simple/clear message for something that is nuanced/complex. Election systems often have SQL injection vulns, and 11 year olds have enough skill to hack SQL injection vulns.
Election companies should be condemned for having one of the most trivial and best known vulns. But at the same time, it doesn't mean kids are hacking election systems.

So this is just a recapitulation of the debate we've been having for decades. The underlying issue here is not "responsible (sic) disclosure", but development processes. Google dev is based on 24 hour cycles, Microsoft dev on 6 month cycles.
When a bug is found in Chrome, then Google can fix it, test it, and release it to customers in a day. If a second bug is found in testing, it just means another day. When a bug is found in Windows, it takes around 90 days, and if a second bug delays this, it's another month.
Google manages Chrome as a piece of software that must be patched, and gives customers few options to do otherwise. Microsoft still manages Windows as software where patching is optional, even though in practice, it really isn't.

Straw bans are an excellent example of everything wrong with modern political stupidity. Other countries throw waste into rivers (which leads to plastic waste in oceans), so in America we stop using straws, even though our straws never go into the oceans.
So then Starbucks develops cups that don't need straws by increasing the thickness of plastic lids -- which entirely misses the point that the issue is PLASTIC WASTE. The amount added to the lids roughly equals the amount in the straw.
Avoiding plastic straws is simple virtue signaling because it sure isn't based on logic, reason, or evidence.

2/ It claims that Uber isn't profitable, that it's just using investor's money to subsidize a loss making business. But it cites no evidence to back this up. I mean, what it does cite isn't evidence.
3/ Yes, Uber loses money. But that's because it has to. If investors have given it $20 billion, then it has to spend that money building the business. That's what investors gave it money to do. It doesn't take that money and stick it in the bank.

"Central Principle" - so are we talking 1st or 2nd wave Pre-Raphaelitism? Inasmuch as there even were central principle(s), they were an *aesthetic* return to medievalism, paired with liberal, socialist politics.

If you *want* to tie the PRB to political shifts, tie it to the 1848 European revolutions. The Pre-Raphaelites wanted to shake up the elitism and traditionalism of the Royal Academy system.

Honestly, Pre-Raphaelites could be pretty racist, but this explanation is a stretch.
