Sealed document filed in the case of Reza Zarrab, who has not yet been sentenced and whose case is apparently still kicking.
For those who haven't been following Zarrab's case, it's the biggest money laundering scheme to Iran charged in U.S. history. Zarrab was the ex-ally-turned-accuser of Turkey's Erdogan, and Zarrab once had Rudy Giuliani as an attorney.

That's true:

"The forcible relocation of U.S. citizens to concentration camps, solely and explicitly on the basis of race, is objectively unlawful and outside the scope of Presidential authority," Roberts wrote in Trump v. Hawaii, the 'Muslim ban' case.
Roberts wrote that in a passage denouncing the "gravely wrong" Korematsu decision, which upheld Japanese-American incarceration.

Fred Korematsu's daughter condemned Roberts' decision as having "replaced one injustice with another nearly 75 years later."
In invoking Korematsu, Roberts had been responding to a blistering dissent by Justice Sotomayor, who found "stark parallels" between that case and the travel ban case.

Roberts called the comparison "wholly inapt."

Korematsu's daughter disagreed with him, agreed with Sotomayor.

This is a thorny issue that boils down to the nature of objectivity:

Does it mean choosing the strongest, accurate phrase accepted by expert authorities—here, historians—even if that means using extremely charged language that upsets and offends good-faith critics?
Conversely, can using language that artificially anesthesizes the shock of the object that it describes through euphemism be truly called objective?
Euphemism isn’t objectivity; objectively means finding the strongest, most accurate language or it means nothing.

Just like in their D.C. appeals, Team Trump hints at the judges: Your taxes could be next.

"Anyone can be a 'case study'—an average citizen, a political opponent, even judges and law clerks hearing a case that a congressional committee deems important."
Note: Federal judges, including Supreme Court justices, routinely disclose their finances, unlike this particular POTUS. It's a bit of a head-scratcher to cite this argued as an ominous or portentous development.

I had dinner this week with a friend in the business world who is not especially political, but is well educated and center-left in their politics. When Trump came up, they shrugged and said "he's a jerk but the economy is great." They won't vote 4 him, but they see no crisis.
The crumbling of norms & the dissolution of institutions is happening in slow motion & largely behind the scenes. For those not following along closely, there appears to be nothing to see. Critics are perceived as hysterical Cassandras, suffering from Trump Derangement syndrome.
I saw @mashagessen speak in 2017 and this is exactly the scenario she described. The slide into authoritarianism is boring as hell. There's no dramatic "aha" moment. And most people, for whom life just goes on as it has, just don't really care all that much.

I’m covering opening arguments of the first federal trial over claims that Monsanto’s Roundup causes cancer this morning. The line to get into the courtroom was hella long.
Judge Chhabria is in the courtroom and asked attorneys if there are any issues he needs to address before bringing in the jury. Both sides are asking the judge to reconsider some pre-trial rulings, mostly re what's admissible during the 1st causation phase of this 2-phase trial.
Judge Chhabria isn't budging on any of his pre-trial rulings. He's calling in the jury in a few minutes.

0/ A thread on "Open Finance" post the @ShapeShift_io news yesterday. It seems like more and more people are holding onto the idea that $ETH will empower an era of Open Finance as the decentralized world computer vision hasn't quite worked as anticipated.
1/ Unfortunately this idea has been coined by a bunch of technologists that have never spent a day on Wall Street or in traditional Finance. The Finance Industry is the most regulated globally and for good reason. Let's take the US as a prime example.
2/ The Pentagon believes they have 2 main weapons at their disposal: 1) The most impressive weapon system globally (both offensive & defensive) and 2) The ability to cripple countries by issuing sanctions as the USD is the global reserve currency (for now).

Michael Dreeben, the longtime top criminal law appellate attorney in the SG's office, who has been assigned part-time to Mueller's team, enters an appearance in Andrew Miller's appeal of his contempt order for not appearing before the grand jury. He is joined by Adam Jed.
I expect this means we'll be getting a filing from the special counsel's office on Concord's motion to intervene in the appeal.
Miller, for those who haven't been following along at home, is the Roger Stone associate who the special counsel's office has been trying to get to testify before the grand jury. He's refused and was held in contempt. He appealed.
