King #Ashurbanipal was a scholar, as well as a warrior and lion hunter. In the 7th BC, he amassed a vast library of over 30,000 clay tablets.

These Afghan war rugs follow the style of traditional Persian paintings, but were actually made in the 1980s, during the Soviet-Afghan war. The weavers replaced floral designs with helicopters, tanks, soldiers and machine guns. #IObject

Got a bit of a heavy-hearted personal ramble this AM, feel free to mute me for the next 15-20 minutes for CW: child abuse and death.

Today is the 18th anniversary of my mother’s death.
In more recent years, I’ve treated it like any other day without taking much time to reflect: why, when I had no space to process her death when I was 15 then have discussed her numerous times in therapy as an adult?

But I had a rather timely trigger yesterday.
En route to my physical therapy appointment, a mother and her daughter who was about 6 or 7 were across from me on the subway. I was getting too many reminders of the past and it was upsetting.

Worse yet, there was that feeling of not knowing if it’s prudent or not to intervene.

Imagine you're living in a perfect VR simulation.

(This isn't a simulation universe thought experiment, I promise.)

Everything is running perfectly smoothly; there's absolutely no way to know it's a simulation because everything that would be happening in reality happens here.
As the person inside the VR experience, there's zero reason to even think about being in VR. It's a perfect experience. It's a 1:1 ratio.

What happens in the world is what you would be experiencing, virtually.

That is, until there's a glitch.
SIDENOTE: If you're a fan of the Matrix, like I am, this is the perfect opportunity to bring up the deja vu cat.

(If you have no clue what I'm talking about, it's highly likely we aren't friends, and if you'd like to be, you should watch the movie.)

Everyone—even House Republicans—admits that the DOJ-FBI investigation first led by Comey, now by Mueller, was initiated when one of Trump's top NatSec aides got drunk in London and revealed that Trump's campaign had been offered stolen goods by the Kremlin and was considering it.
2/ Under these circumstances, had the DOJ and FBI *not* initiated an investigation, it would've been a scandal bigger than Watergate. Moreover, had the DOJ and FBI *not* used their usual investigative mechanisms in launching and conducting their probe, it would've been a scandal.
3/ SOP (standard operating procedure) for the DOJ and FBI is relying in part on informants to gather info. These informants don't *create* inculpatory evidence; they do not entrap; they do not manufacture new narratives. They tell DOJ and the FBI whether they should be concerned.
