Guys. I’m a grown woman and I put a piece of candy in my mouth and this Uber driver turns around and tells me “There is no eating in this car”. Guys.
Omg y’all all said “spit it out” and I’m dying. 😂🤣😂
But also, the way he turned his whole self around to watch me get out of the car - I guess that’s how he gets *his* candy.

Y’all I should have dumped the candy and rubbed it all over his car seat.
I slammed the door so hard behind me I almost busted his whole damn car.

Native American history is largely unknown in this country. Like deeply deeply misunderstood.

White people don’t know Native history.

Black people also don’t know Native history because they learned it from white people.

Please understand that.
My sist & i have been helping an elder Wampanoag woman build her website. She is a master Chef trying to secure funds to open a living history site that would teach traditional, sustainable agriculture and foodways.

I have to start by explaining what the hell a Wampanoag is.
Like literally, the Wompanoag were the first to meet the Pilgrims. They are the reason they survived.

Every Thanksgiving Americans eat Wompanoag foods - roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, acorn squash, Indian pudding.

You know nothing about them. Nothing.

There is a scene in the movie Mary Queen of Scots that shows it was written by a man. Queen Elizabeth is visiting with a new foal in the stables. Seeing the baby horse causes her to bunch up her dress to her belly, making her look pregnant in her shadow. She looks at it longingly
I can honestly say that in my childlessness I have never looked at a baby animal and thought longingly of my own fertility. Do men think we see kittens and puppies and our ovaries twinge? Do cats see human babies and wish they were knocked up too? Wtf.
Men have such a bizarre fascination with our ability to create human life but at the same time give zero respect, credit, or even curiousity to our feelings about it.

Social categories don’t have to be biological to be real.

Class isn’t biological, it’s not genetic, you can’t “see” it, but you are born into it. It’s real & consequential. So is race.
You don’t put an end to something strongly held and festering, by ignoring it. That’s how infections spread.

To end racism it is required that we acknowledge racial categories and their impact on lived experiences.

You can’t do that by insisting it doesn’t exist.
So talking abt race, collecting data on race, acknowledging racial differences, how they are classified, and why - is not racist.

That’s like saying we solve the issue of classism by not taking about money. It’s just green paper! It’s not real! Ok, until I have to pay my bills.

My name is Pilar & I attend the University at Albany in NYS. Yesterday, on 4/1/2019, I was assaulted/harrassed by a @lyft driver. I wanted to share this with Twitter because if the University Police Dept. say that nothing can be done, then the world will know who he is.
So, I got into the Lyft at Collins Circle, if you guys are familiar with UAlbany. I got in at 12:23PM as the time stamp proves. When I got into the Lyft, I was already engaging in a phone call. The incident happened at 12:26PM. So this was a 3 minute time span, LITERALLY.
So being from the Bronx, NY, cursing is just in my vocabulary. Yes sometimes we have to learn to turn it on and off, but WE ALL occasionally swear. I don’t recall exactly what was said, but it was a curse word along the lines of “shit” or probably “fuck.”

Bare with me, I’m gonna talk about my local for a long minute. Probably because I’m trying to write whilst not being able to. But I’m pretty focused on the beauty of so many misfits coming together:
The first time I cried in there, two years ago, the barmaid wrote “We love you” on a coaster and slid it across the bar to me. I hadn’t really spoken to anyone in there at that point. But I guess she recognised my face. I still have that coaster, mounted on my fridge, in fact.
I was still new to the neighbourhood when one of the barmen took my credit card, saw my name, and said “You Turkish?” I froze. Honestly kinda panicked. Then he said his name—Turkish first and last. “There aren’t many of us in Bed Stuy,” he told me.

1/ People in the Taxi and Private Hire trades need to put their Champagne on ice. The current ECJ ruling on Uber as a Transport Company means very little, if any change in the England and Wales. #Uber
2/ Uber May well have to withdraw from certain European cities where they will no longer be competitive . Instead they could switch investment and focus to England and Wales.
3/ Given all their legal issues in England. Uber will make full use of any appeals process. In London this could take several years. Many Private Hire Operators will be forced out of business in that time.
