I would love it if supermarkets were to offer really really robust plastic bags *as an option* at around the price of their super-durable bags (ie 40-50p). 10p bags for life only realistically last for a dozen trips or so.
Yes, paper bags are fab and environmentally friendly and should be the first choice of course, but they do have undeniable practical issues eg when it rains. Meanwhile the super-durable bags last for years, but they're bulky so it's impractical to fit 3-4 into a small manbag.
So there does seem to be a gap for a massively durable plastic bag that might last say 6 months and 100+ trips rather than a couple of weeks. 4x the price means they could be made at least 4x as thick. Or am I alone in thinking this?
Note: if you do all your shopping by car and your bags only make 2 short trips (supermarket to boot, boot to house) then please try and put yourself in the mindset of people who walk, cycle and use public transport before immediately objecting. Thanks.
Basically I'm after something with the same carrying capacity and waterproofness as an M&S bag (like the bottom on for example) but more resilient, without stepping up all the way to the additional bulk and heft of those woven bags (like the top one).
And this is why (orange folded bag is at least twice as thick too) But perhaps I am alone in seeing this as a gap in the market?
