The latest plan out from @JayInslee is what real climate leadership looks like. Full stop. It's time we got serious about taking on the out-of-control fossil fuel industy. His Freedom from Fossil Fuels plan does that. oilchangeusa.org/response-insle…
@JayInslee I mean just look at these headers! They're what climate leadership dreams are made of!
@JayInslee Gotta love the shout-out to the first rule of holes. And he's not wrong. We need to #StopFundingFossils. Now.
@JayInslee And @JayInslee's got #StopFundingFossils details nailed. Building off his international plan where he called for ending int'l public finance for fossil fuels, today's plan goes into the weeds of intangible drilling costs, LIFO, + other ways we funnel cash to fossil fuels at home.
@JayInslee Throwing out inappropriate tax deductions, closing tax loopholes, enforcing fees and existing laws. It's all in there so we can #StopFundingFossils for good.
@JayInslee Here's another piece I love -- ending wars for oil. That's right. @JayInslee's gonna couple his climate mobilization with better foreign policy so we can stop spending trillions protecting fossil fuel assets.
Oh, and the @ENERGY's "Office of Fossil Energy"? @JayInslee's gonna remake it into the "Office of Industrial Decarbonization." Love. It.
@ENERGY @JayInslee It keeps going. Now onto fossil fuel leasing. Lots of candidates have called for an end to new fossil leases on public lands. That is AWESOME. Really, it is. It's amazing that so many candidates are on board with this imperative. But, you guessed it, @JayInslee goes further...
Jay's going to claw back unused permits so that they are taken off the market. He's going to stop the practice of stockpiling leases and cancel permits that were issued inappropriately.
He's also going to expand national monuments again -- heeding the calls of many to protect pristine and sacred sites from fossil fuel interests.
More broadly, he's got another amazing new office: the Presidential Commission on Energy Transition, focused on planning out the managed phase out of fossil fuel production with a just transition for workers and communities. Fantastic.
Here's another great policy in Jay's new plan: Setbacks. These are health and safety buffers from sensitive locations like, you know, schools, homes, and hospitals. He recognizes that drilling presents serious risks and is listening to EJ communities fighting for protection.
Unsurprisingly but extremely importantly, @JayInslee's Freedom from Fossil Fuels plan has a robust plan for a just transition. Coupled w/ his Evergreen Economy & other plans, he's showing that you can stand up to fossil fuel CEOs while standing with workers at the same time.
@JayInslee Oh, and dangerous drilling and mining practices like fracking and mountaintop removal? @JayInslee's new plan does the right thing: it bans them, nationwide.
Onto @JayInslee's #ClimateTest. This is something that the Obama administration began to work into their reviews of projects. It's sunk #KeystoneXL the first time. It says, simply: If a piece of infrastructure is not in line with our climate goals, it should be rejected. Amen.
What's more, @JayInslee's plan today puts power back in the hands of tribal and local communities, whose power to stand up to fossil fuels Trump has tried to curtail. Frontline communities bear the brunt of impacts and must be able to say NO to projects. Jay says yes to that.
On exports, @JayInslee recognizes that the removal of the crude export ban was a huge mistake leading to a dangerous expansion of oil and gas production. He puts it back in place...and extends it to other fossil fuels like LNG and coal. Good.
There's more but this thread is getting out of hand. What's also out of hand is the expansion of fossil fuel production in our country...and thankfully, today, @JayInslee has laid out a plan to take that challenge head on.

Other candidates: The bar has been raised. Again.
@JayInslee Oh, and obviously go read the full plan for yourself. Here: jayinslee.com/issues/freedom…

Thank you @JayInslee for showing us a plan for what true climate leadership can look like.
@JayInslee Here's a great thread from @collinrees diving into the details too. With charts!
@JayInslee @collinrees And another thread from @Guay_JG with some great points you might have missed in @JayInslee's new plan:
@JayInslee @collinrees @Guay_JG Late addition to the thread roundup, but a much-anticipated one from @leahstokes:
