1/So, like many people, I criticized antifa for beating up right-wing provocateur Andy Ngo. Vigilante assaults are unacceptable...

BUT, it's important to keep this incident in perspective. It is NOT a manifestation of rampant leftist violence in America.

2/It is RIGHTIST gangs and terrorists, not leftist ones, who represent the biggest political-extremist threat to safety, security, and public order in America today.

1/San Francisco is not the friendliest city. Here is a thread of some of the altercations I've seen over the past couple of years of living here...
2/Yesterday I saw a woman (walking two small dogs) get right in a skateboarder's face and scream "FUCK YOU!!!!" at the top of her lungs. The skater said "Hey, the cops are right there!" She walked off, still screaming "Fuck you!!"
3/Recently I saw a guy threatening to beat up an elderly couple in Tenderloin. Some bystanders intervened to protect the couple, after which the attacker started making finger-guns and them and screaming he would shoot them, before running off.

Someone tweeted the other day while all of this was going on that the incident showed how useless local papers are. As I said then and will say again now, this actually proved how invaluable they are. Local reporters were the only ones who got the story right. 1/
This isn’t taking place in a vacuum. Far-right groups have descended on Portland regularly for years, usually bringing violence with them. Local antifascist have seen what unchecked far-right street rallies look like: They look like the two men murdered by Jeremy Christian. 2/
