Beautiful summer windstorm with very pronounced structures in Baltic sea right now. Possibly some damage expected at the coast of Estonia and Latvia later today due to 25-30 m/s wind gusts.
The surface low was associated with a "tropopause cyclone" (or tropopause polar vortex) which dropped south from Arctic ocean (see atmos.albany.edu/student/abentl…).

For this reason, the dynamic tropopause has been anomalously low: e.g. in Jokioinen only at 400 hPa (~7 km).
This kind of strong and "top-heavy" cyclones are rare in July. The sounding observations from Jokioinen, Finland shows that only two times during the 62-year history the 500 mb heights in July has been lower than now.
