This is good advice generally and *particularly* good advice when you’re in that stage of growth where being the go to X for a platform can materially impact your growth curve.
Addendum to it: get to know actual named humans at the platform company. Every program is made out of people; good relations will keep you at the top of the list (metaphorical or absolutely literal) and probably help you get better terms than they’d offer by default.
And if you are heavily platform dependent and something goes wrong you want to be able to place a phone call to God rather than sending an email to /dev/null.
