Okay, this is a good point. I don't despise an entire generation of Boomers, since I am related to them and love them and grew up around them. But as a small-c conservative, I find their *politics* innately annoying, much like their grandchildren.
Sandwiched between them and the Millennials (as a notch sometimes called "Gen Jones"), I feel like I'm stuck between two generations of entitled brats. I actually kinda like the X-ers, tbh, but don't tell them because it ruins my Grandpa cred.
I give the Boomers a lot of credit for changing the world. But I also think they destroyed a lot of the guardrails of American society, and now they just won't get out of politics. Trump v Clinton was the boomerest election that ever boomered, and I hated it.

Before I leave aside the Great AOC Loyalty Festival today, I want to emphasize something, from this WaPo piece, about why conservatives like me - and I speak only for myself - are mistrustful of people like her and her CoS on their sincerity on climate change issues. /1
For years, I've argued with people on the left, saying: Yes, I get your point about climate change, and it's real and it's a problem. But I think your solutions are really about controlling capitalism in ways you prefer, and climate change is the cover you're using for that. /2
And of course, I got tons of huffy answers, here on social media and out in the world, about how that's a charge of bad-faith, and how could I, and ZOMG, and yack yack yack. Because of course, no one would do that. It's only about climate, and saving the earth, etc. /3

I don't think of 2020 or any one election as a "Flight 93" election. I think the GOP has become a hideous parody of itself, and the Democrats are having the usual argument with their own totalitarian left wing. But that's not a "so crash everything in desperation" argument. /2
I think of Trump as an "existential" threat because his presence in the Oval, and the daily damage he does to it, has removed us from a left-right, Dem-GOP, lib-con axis; now we face basic questions about what kind of country we are and whether we care about the Constitution. /3

@asymmetricinfo @lieronet Correct. I don't care about any of the programmatic elements among the Dems right now and hope most of them fail on enactment. My one, single-minded goal is ending what I see as an existential threat to the country in Trump's presidency. /1
@asymmetricinfo @lieronet I think the Republicans have to pay the price for mutating into nothing more than a vehicle for a caudillo, so I'm arguing for depriving the GOP of votes at every level of government as a means of making them change. If I could pick and choose members, I would, but I can't. /2
@asymmetricinfo @lieronet There are good GOP house members I would save. But when you make enough exceptions, you wake up and find out that you made enough exceptions to let McCarthy become speaker and Nunes to stay chair of HPSCI. So, until this is over, no exceptions, imo. /3

Around 18 years. I lived in Japan & my Supervisor organized a group of old wrestlers/ martial artists to train.
This became the Navy’s 1st BJJ team.

I started training in a belt system 5-6 yrs ago as a reward to myself for losing 50 lbs.
I’m Judo Brown/BJJ Purple Belt.
Japan was a wild place around this time.
There was NO financial rewards for fighting MMA during this era.
The majority of the big names you know today were all bouncers and security at clubs to make enough money to train.

Bob Sapp was the only American to reach superstardom

He’s on the left. The most dangerous man I ever met (at the time.)
I grew up around lots of crazies but he was different. He was the 1st man I met who could kill me at any moment... and there was nothing I could do about it.

I just got back from seeing "The Last Jedi," and it feels like it delivered on the promise of the original more than any movie in the series. But I also think many of the analyses of it (esp the ones around masculinity) missed half the story. (Spoilers follow: mute if you want)
Each of the characters felt like they were following a very different arc, and trying to combine all of them into a single story misses many of the best parts.
Poe is the one following the classic "masculinity" thread: he spends a great deal of the movie being a hazardous idiot, more concerned with glory and "doing something" than with thinking through consequences.
