Matt here. One year ago today, @peterjhasson of The Daily Caller decided to not only publish my name, but the names of my wife & friends.

As if that weren’t enough, they left death threats and my address in their comment section for 5 days after they were reported.

What followed was a week of unrelenting harassment, as websites like Breitbart & Gateway Pundit followed suit. This resulted in my wife getting threatening calls on her personal phone and even my son getting death threats, listing the name and address of our synagogue to find him

All of this from websites that constantly whine about “being silenced” and purport to carry the torch for “free speech”.

Breitbart screams “anti-Semitism” everyday, and left an anti-Semitic death threat to my son up for days after it was reported.

This experience only affirmed that these websites, funded by billionaires, are not acting in good faith. The fact that @google and @facebook continue to allow these sites to monetize using their ad networks while they engage in these personal attacks is unexplainable.

This is not, nor has ever been about me. There are other amazing people that work on this everyday and hundreds of thousands that take part in the community. But having gone through what I did only proves that what we’re doing here is not only right, but needed.

No one should be getting paid by advertisers to vilify minorities, women, the LGBTQ community or people of different religions.

Or, as what happened with me, terrorize the families of people who they might not agree with.
