Thousands of legally innocent people are incarcerated in Cook County Jail simply because they are too poor to pay bond.

These notices are now up outside trial courtrooms at the main criminal courthouse in Cook County. Despite these policies on paper, many judges inside these courtrooms continue to disregard General Order 18.8A.

From November 2017 to June of this year, the monthly rate of unaffordable money bonds has tripled from 9% to 29%.

From November 2017 to June 2018, the monthly rate of I-Bonds in Cook County decreased. Instead of releasing people on their own recognizance or affordable money bonds, judges use unaffordable money bonds to incarcerate the poor.
