I wrote for the @washingtonpost about how recent US policies are likely to export our concentration camps over the southern border into Mexico and beyond. washingtonpost.com/outlook/2019/0…
Thanks much to @Jacob_Brogan for editing my writing and helping to clarify my argument.
Things I didn't get in there because I ran out of room: 1) Since the US has abandoned the humane treatment of migrants, other countries may follow suit. 2) Countries south of us don't have the existing bureaucracy or infrastructure to deal with large numbers of asylum-seekers.

Trump will take every part of this--corruption, abuse of powers, targeting minorities, doing harm to those he identifies as enemies--as far as he can. He's limited only by institutional barriers, which are fairly flexible with the current makeup of the Senate and Supreme Court.
Leaders who ended up instituting concentration camps and other repressive measures weren't necessarily smart. Even in cases where they were, many have tended to be reactive. They respond to things in the moment. They do as much as they can get away with & wait, & then go further.
All of which is to say that early on, they themselves often don't imagine the worst things they will do, or how opening one set of doors will lead to new possibilities of inflicting harm at a later date.

I had a childhood nickname and wasn't known by my first or middle name for several years. When I left it behind, I chose my middle name to go by. When I married, I kept my last name but could have changed it. I also ask to be called Ms. instead of Mrs.
I'm fortunate, because society by & large respects these naming choices today (though it didn't always). But pronouns are even more important. So seriously⁠—it's just not that hard to call people what they want to be called. Even if you feel confused, you're not being attacked.

I've been thinking a lot lately about this idea that a positive form of nationalism for the US exists, or as is said here, in my opinion, incorrectly, "People need to belong to something. People need to have, well, a people." washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/editor…
The great strength of America has been and is that it has no Volk, no ethnic or racial group that defines it.
Citizens build the nation and national identity through shared political ideals at a federal level and the freedom to associate locally in whatever communities they please.

Ocasio-Cortez falsely claims Trump is operating concentration camps, compares the situation to the Holocaust: “The U.S. is running concentration camps on our southern border and that is exactly what they are. … ‘Never Again’ means something ... we need to do something about it”
AOC compares Trump to Hitler here:

-‘Never Again’ references the Holocaust
-Concentration camps are a reference to the Holocaust
-AOC mentions WWII internment camps Japanese Americans were forced in
-Calling Trump a "fascist" is comparing him to Hitler given the time period
Which begs the question, what did AOC mean when she said: “we need to do something about it”?

She is saying Trump is Hitler and is running concentration camps and then says “we need to do something about it”

That sounds an awful lot like incitement
