It's been 72 hours since I live feed my incident at #JFKAIRPORT completely ignored how to handle my chair, even when I specifically advised that my chair does not fold…they folded it anyways causing the chair to completely snap and break.
THIS HAS TO STOP! I am completely and utterly over the disrespect and unprofessionalism of airports handling assistive devices. THIS IS OUR WAY OF LIVING!
I have personally tried everything; from being verbal before leaving my chair when boarding at the gate, to not getting off the plane upon arrival until my chair is physically delivered to me at the door of the actual plane.
I...WE have heard too many horror stories from people either feeling afraid to travel (which is my favorite thing to do, and it hurts me that this is standing in the way of someone enjoying the world) or having their devices completely broken upon arrival.
THEY (airport handlers) have no consideration at all that these devices is our way of living and moving forward, literally through life. It has happened to me almost 4 to 6 times in the last two years...AND I HAVE HAD IT!
SO I'M MAKING NOISE! We need accessible air travel NOW! The disrespect has to stop. I'm going to get as much media coverage as possible, using my platform to change this. I WANT UR STORIES/PHOTOS OR VIDEO hashtag #disabledairlinehorror OR email me: manufactured1987@gmail.com
