Thread: I’m dedicating this art history thread to .@ciarakellydoc so that she learns the horrors of the Far Right instead of arguing to interview Hitler, blaming Communists for the rise of Hitler & being apathetic to minorities persecution:
I would also ask Ciara to read @Limerick1914 every day & understand that her ahistorical analysis & privilege in ignoring the Far Right is deeply problematic.
I would also encourage her to have the humility to listen to the voice of an Irish Concentration Camp survivor. Ciara needs to ask herself if she has greater expertise than this man. I really hope she can open her mind to the sufferings of those who are not privileged like her.

Thread: Rogier van der Weyden (1399/1400-1464) was one of the most famous & respected Early Netherlandish painters of his time. He was forgotten until the 19th century & is now ranked with Van Eyck & Robert Campin in importance.
He was born in Tournai (Belgium), the son of a cutler. Young Man (1430s), St George & the Dragon (c1432-5) & Virgin & Child (1433).
In 1425 the artist married Elisabeth, the daughter of a Brussels cobbler. Together they had 4 children & lived in Brussels (c1435). Annunciation (c1434) & Deposition (1435). In the 15th century art was about religious works & portraits.

Thread: Botticelli (c1445-1510) was one of the great masters of the Early Renaissance. His paintings have been treasured for their serene beauty, their lyrical lines & distilled composition. Let’s take a look at his work.
As a Florentine artist his main patronage would be from the church & private devotional images. The latter were popular & with just cause. Virgin & Child with Angels & St John the Baptist (1465-70), Madonna of the Rosegarden (1469-70) & Virgin & Child (1475-85)

Thread: John Bauer (1882-1918) was a Swedish artist who painted landscapes & mythology. He is famed for his images of gnomes & trolls. He was a short-lived artist but his work lives on in the imagination. And She Held Up a Key (1915), Princess (c1913) & Troll (1914)
Bauer was born to a German dad & a Swedish Mother in Jönköping. He went to tech school (1892-8) where he was always drawing. He studied with an artist for two years & then went to the Academy of Arts 1900-5. Matts (1903), Fairy Princess (1904) & An Old Mountain Troll (1904)

#Thread: Inspired by the CBP Facebook revelations, I decided to take a look at the OUN-B affiliated U.S. Organization for Defense of Four Freedoms of Ukraine (ODFFU) Facebook group, which includes 610 people. In no particular order, here are some profiles that stuck out to me:
Dmytro Zhmailo, spokesman/executive director of Free People, member of Youth Nationalist Congress (MNK), and senior staff for Ukrainian MP Oleh Medunytsia, who himself chaired MNK 2002-2006. Among others, Zhmailo is FB friends with CUN leader S.Bratsiun.
Pavlo Podobied, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance's Department for the Preservation of Places of Memory, according to Newsweek, has "accused Jews of being the main perpetrators of Soviet crimes against Ukrainians in the 1920s and 1930s." (1/2)

This guy is Max Theon original name Louis-Maximilian Bimstein. He founded the Cosmic Movement. As we will see each and every member of this network prefers to hide their original name, identity and history.
Many prominent people were involved with this Cosmic Movement as we will see. One of them was Tomáš Masaryk (who became the first President of Czechoslovakia) also the Princess of Rohan in Vienna and many others. However this group was actually a spin-off of the OTO.

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
