Today would have been our beloved son (and brother) Matthew’s 39th birthday. We feel the presence of his absence more with each passing season. This year, his birthday falls on the weekend between the first and second weeks of the Matthew Harris Ornstein Summer Debate Institute.
200 public school kids from the DC area are enrolled, fifth grade through high school, immersed in the year’s subject and in how to debate civilly, how to think on your feet, how to argue all sides. Life skills. It is free to all, breakfast and lunch included.
Thursday, for the first time, we took them all to a Nats game. Watching these kids thrive and grow is an inspiration, much needed for us and in the world we inhabit. To learn more about Matthew, debate and the other programs of the Matthew Harris Ornstein Memorial Foundation,

Let’s give appropriate props to Hurd, Upton, Fitzpatrick and Brooks. (And Amash.) it was not easy to stand out like that. But remember that every other Republican in the House—EVERY SNGLE ONE— would not condemn rank racism. This is a party with no moral core. Sad for America.
We need two parties who care about all Americans, & respect the norms of our constitutional system. If one abandons these values we all lose. that we have a party following a demogogic racist leader making it a party of White people (less educated ones!) it is utterly dangerous.
Partisan tribalism is corrosive. Add racial divisions exploited by a president and it is utterly combustible. i was with historian @jbf1755 tonight. Read her Field of Blood and recognize that history can repeat itself.

I am sure some analyses of the two Supreme Court decisions today will be framed as John Roberts strikes balance, liberal on Census, conservative on partisan gerrymandering. No. The Census issue is far from resolved; he can still allow citizenship Q down the road
Gerrymandering? Remember when Roberts said there are no Republican judges? He lied.He is a Republican partisan. A true representative system-- a republic-- only works if voters choose their representatives, not the other way around. He has endorsed a deep perversion of a republic
North Carolina's outrageous perversion of districts will become the norm.And the worst is likely yet to come. Roberts will soon outlaw non-partisan redistricting commissions for congressional elections-- signaled in his vigorous dissent in AZ case. Meaning even more distortions.

Letting out some thoughts and some facts when it came to Western nations not merely looking away at terrorism aimed at India in the 70s, 80s and the 90s, but in cases, actually encouraging it.

Look, Game of Thrones needed four more seasons AT LEAST to tell the story.

Three years ago back in 2016, the showrunners were *told* they were only getting 2 more seasons.

That was before they began shooting season seven, which aired in 2017.
The Star Wars offer to the showrunners came *after* they already knew they were only getting 2 more seasons.

So the constant bitching about the reality of the situation doesn't change anything.

HBO wanted cheaper spin offs so this decision was made more than 3 years ago.
The show is a victim of it's own success.

Each subsequent contract renewals of the main actors got more expensive with each passing season.

It's cheaper for HBO to spin off new series with cheaper actors who are mostly unknown.

My letter to the club - apologies for any typos or dodgy grammar!!

It is regret that I am writing to inform you that I would like cancel my membership above. I cannot continue with my membership if the club insists on being run in the way that is has been for several years now.
I have been supporting Hull City for the best part of 50 years with grandparents, parents, siblings, alone and with friends too numerous to mention in that time. I am therefore cancelling with a heavy heart.

Taxes are treated as something like the affairs of obscure and malevolent wizards. There exists a tome of rules. You're forbidden from knowing it. Mispeaking the magic words may turn you into a newt.
