I don't get @MittRomney. He knows this is wrong. He's said as much in many other instances. He's in maybe the safest seat in the Senate, not up for six years. What's the penalty for standing up for the right thing? Aside from daylight between him and his niece.
@MittRomney To those who think this is about Romney coveting 2024 nom. Maybe? But if Trump is reelected, Romney will be too late to position himself as any kind of corrective to Trumpism. If he's not reelected, I don't see the party or the country crying out for Romney either.
@MittRomney Anyway I just don't know why, if you're Romney in particular, you'd go back into a dysfunctional do-nothing Senate unless you hoped to steer the party to at least a little bit higher ground.

@MittRomney @stuartpstevens Sometimes I wonder if Trump were to drop dead from a heart attack or something, who in the GOP might position themselves as a corrective and how. Or is any scenario of a moral GOP reckoning insane and the hate fever can either burn itself out or engulf the world.
