Yesterday a major magazine asked me for a previously unpublished recipe with “5 spins” on it and a blurb and when I asked what they paid, they said they didn’t pay for “editorial tips.” Recipe development isn’t a “tip.” 1/2
The worst part is all I could think is that “someone will think they need to do this to get their name out there.” Don’t. Don’t work for free. Don’t work for exposure. Dont let anyone convince you that your work isn’t work. Don’t support publications that think you should. 2/2
A thought: If you recognize this very specific request and was thinking about sharing this recipe with them, email me. Maybe we can work together and co-develop something for Smitten Kitchen. I will pay you fairly.
