I am reading master theses and I keep writing the same things

Read each sentence aloud. Is the sentence grammatically correct? If not, fix it. Can you rewrite the sentence with less words without loss of clarity? If so, choose the shorter sentence. Shorter is better. 1/4
Is the sentence absolutely necessary for what you want to say in your paper (or letter, or email message)? If the answer is no, delete it. Shorter is better.

Read the whole paragraph aloud. Are the sentences that form the paragraph logically connected? Can you make the paragraph shorter? Shorter is better.

Now read the whole section aloud. Are the paragraphs logically connected? Are all paragraphs necessary? Shorter is better.

In empirical work, explain what you do.

Be precise.

Don’t write something unless you are 100% sure that you understand what you are writing.

Thread on #writing & #revision: A reverse outline is a way to see the structure of what you’ve written in a draft in order to reorganize it. You start by marking up a pdf or print copy of your draft & numbering every paragraph. My book chap has 33 paragraphs.
Once you’ve numbered, make a list from 1 to whatever number of paragraphs you have. Re-read each paragraph & write a short summary (a phrase, not even a sentence) describing what each paragraph is about or doing.

1. I had just completed my book. It took me several months to write a manuscript I was satisfied with. Now I faced the hurdle of selling the book

2. "How are you going to sell this book?", a friend asked me. I didn't have an answer. I had used a lot of money to produce the book and I was almost broke. It even got to the point that I almost cursed the day I decided to write that book.

3. Nobody I knew had written and sold books before. The only people I knew who wrote and sold books were pastors with a large congregation who bought their books. I didn't have a church, I was not close to anyone who had a large church, so I was in a predicament.

Writing Myths #3 Writing Portfolios are the magic way into the industry!!
Get a portfolio said the writing panel/advice/speaker in what is the latest throwaway simple advice that instantly builds a career…. So, let’s talk about them.
1/24
1)Portfolios are NOT magic. Simply having one doesn't get you a job. Tey are a tool to be used in chasing work and an increasing number of employers ask for them. Having one can be very useful, but just putting some bits of writing in the same place does not = instant career.
2) People tend to read your email first, then your c.v. and then portfolio. Mess up stages 1, or 2 and 3 may well not matter. Always rework your email, c.v. and portfolio for EVERY application. Focus on what matches that job/company.
