I went to bed sick about El Paso. I woke up in the middle of the night. I check the news. I see Dayton.
I just dont even know what to say anymore. Will a resolution only come after every city in America has experienced a mass shooting? I am at a loss.

Amid promises of support, amid the prayers and amid the "updates," amid two mass shootings, there is still no mention of white nationalist terrorism in the president's twitter feed as of 930AM Sunday. There is no mention of legislation, no call to legislative action on guns.

The majority leader's feed is much of the same. The House passed gun safety legislation, but the Senate is immovable and refuses. The people holding much of the power are seemingly absent on this.
I am not restating these facts because I think blame is a solution.

I am restating these facts because it seems fairly obvious to me that the way to solve a problem is to start by, at the *least,* naming it clearly. Politics must be put aside in favor of bigger picture thinking here.

Before. Another. Baby. Is. Shot.

I will say this: I cannot believe my eyes when I see people slamming each other for merely *discussing* root problems and potential solutions. The discussion on gun control, white supremacy, mental health, outsize gun lobbyist influence, HAS to be had. Where is our common ground?

Must we be so divided, so cruel to each other that we cannot even consider how all of these things are interconnected? More irate tweets from pundits or politicians or reporters arguing amongst themselves does nothing.

So what do I ask? I suppose I am asking for people to try harder. To take a galaxy brain approach to this. Because the shootings arent stopping and the debates are so far the same. The path is a dead end. Logic tells us we should try another one.

People say they cant be hopeful. I know. But I've got a beautiful nephew who I want to see live in a better world. My hope may be damaged but my desire to see him grow up whole is not.
