I got some of the fascist footsoldiers riled up today. Have blocked a few. The crudity of the racism is astonishing. The last time I came across such vile racism was with the AWB in the late 1980s & early 1990s. These guys have no idea how similar they sound to apartheid’s thugs.
For those of you who don’t know about the AWB, it was a far right white party fighting for the continuation of apartheid. It was led by a guy called Eugene Terreblanche whose politics was one of hate & entirely focussed on spectacle. Reminds me a lot of some pol. figures today.
The AWB also spoke as if they represented a majority. But like today’s fascists, their electoral numbers were minuscule. They too threatened mayhem & violence, but when their leader was thrown in jail, they whimpered back to their hole. This is the only way to deal with fascism.

In response to my criticisms of violence and the threats thereof by the EFF, some have raised the accommodation challenge. I know that most of them don't care about the issue using it as a political tool to deflect, but it is useful to identify the challenge for those interested.
The accommodation challenge:Wits has 6500 beds and a demand from 14000 students. At the moment there is enough supply in Bram if you add private providers.But the problem is their costs which many students cannot afford. So currently at Wits supply is not the issue, but money is.
Many (including the press) have spoken about students sleeping in Libraries. On investigation, we found that these students have lost NSFAS bursaries because they repeatedly failed.This is why they cannot get private accommodation,even though there are beds in private facilities.

The debate on the Clifton protest on social media is distressingly racist. The protest is entirely legitimate. Our public beaches are there for all, not simply the rich. Neither do I have a problem with the slaughter of an animal. This is a cultural practice of some among us.
The racial profiling in the subsequent debate is shocking. This has targeted animal rights activists who have protested the slaughter. Their argument; by all means protest, but why slaughter an animal? But if this is a cultural practice of some among us, why impose your values?
But the response to the animal rights activists is too often racist.Some have taken trophy photos of white hunters to prove hypocrisy.But what is hypocritical?The animal rights activists were not the hunters.The only thing they shared with the hunters is their skin pigmentation.

Just completed Mbeki's position paper on Land and the National Question. This thread is a summary of his argument: 1. The ANC has throughout its history challenged colonialism through the alternative vision of a non-racial humanist society.
2. This alternative vision was encapsulated in the principles of the Freedom Charter which suggests that land must be shared by all who work on it; and expropriation must be accompanied by compensation.
3. This was agreed to because the Freedom Charter envisages the ANC as serving all South Africans, black and white, even as it committed to addressing the historical injustice of colonialism and land dispossession of blacks in general and Africans in particular.

Good time to rework an old #protip thread: Some advice for showing your comics portfolio at conventions. First thing: Lots of people today build great careers without ever showing a portfolio or being published by anyone else.
How much should I bring? 6-10 pages of your best sequential storytelling. Show you understand narrative, and that you can keep characters, situations, & settings consistent and recognizable. Show what you can do with acting and staging, and with character, prop, and set design.
Put the art in a clean presentation binder. Have 8½ by 11" (a4) copies you can leave behind, with your URL and email on every page. Have a business card too. I’d show printouts rather than originals. They're lighter and less trouble.
