today is the LAST DAY for cville to deny the permit for jason kessler’s proposed “unite the right II” aug 11-12. if they don’t deny today, the permit is granted. maybe the city needs a reminder what happened last time? let ‘em know how you feel.

hey, while you're on the phone with the city, mention the state's report on updated recommendations for the permitting process. some damn good (and simple) ideas in there. encourage them to adopt some of these recommendations!

city hall now saying they have until monday to decide. perhaps "10 business days" begins the first full day after the application is submitted? i hope the city's legal team includes brighter minds than the ones who wouldn't prohibit weapons in august. keep4QZsO1FVou

hey @CvilleCityHall , looks like kessler CAN'T use emancipation park on sunday, aug 12. no events can be held in that park before 1pm on sundays! he'd have to breakdown sat. night & set back up aug 12 at 1. back to the drawing board for bj4p

@CvilleCityHall look, we're all very sorry for the plight of mr. kessler. gotta be hard to be so hated. but technically his application violates the rules. no address or phone number was provided. there is no clause for leaving those blank because an entire city blames you for a terrorist act.

@CvilleCityHall look, this application just isn't properly filled out. not only is emancipation park requested at time at which events may not occur, no breakdown times are specified.

@CvilleCityHall leaving section b ENTIRELY aside (but really, don't forget that), look at section c. i would argue that reserving a public park for 41 consecutive hours is very much incompatible with the purposes for which that area is normally reserved and with others uses of the public area.

@CvilleCityHall the mayor has been very clear that he's completely powerless to affect any governmental process, but mr. jones doesn't have a twitter account. could you make sure decision makers know the public has read these permitting requirements, @MikeSigner, and that we're paying attention?

@CvilleCityHall since you're going to approve it anyway, let's be smart. given our experiences with the catastrophic failures on J8 and A12, i can only assume the city will do some careful planning and properly bill mr kessler for the barricades and additional officers this disaster will require

@CvilleCityHall i'd love to see the invoices for those expenses from A12. you did send them, right? all that overtime cost the taxpayers some real money. now, you cheaped out on barricades last time, but that's gonna cost you in the long run.

@CvilleCityHall i'm obviously not an attorney. but the permitting guidelines grant the city enough leeway to deny this permit for safety reasons. do it. you'll get sued. but you'll win. you'll get to be righteous heroes. isn't that all you fucking narcissists really want out of "public service?"
