BREAKING:

EFCC has begun the probe of the $16bn power project of the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

There had been conflicting figures on the exact cost of the project as some people put it at $16bn while others say it is $13.8bn

It was gathered last night that the anti-graft agency may arrest key contractors involved in the power project scam which extended beyond the Obasanjo administration into those of former Presidents Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.

It was also learnt that about 18 top former and serving public officers, including two ex-ministers, may be questioned.

Also likely to be interrogated by the EFCC are some top officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Preliminary investigation revealed that Rockson Engineering Limited got a chunk of the contracts worth about $2 billion.

The transactions involving the firms implicated in the power contracts were characterised by absence of due diligence

From documents available to the commission, Rockson got 4 contracts and it received over $2bn in the following tranches: $180m; $220m; $240m and $480m.

“Rockson also received questionable $11m and another N150m.These payments are now under investigation.

Tinubu accused Obasanjo of being responsible for the flaws in Nigeria’s political economy since 1999, and described former president Olusegun Obasanjo as an “election rigger without peer.”
Tinubu said the former president is shameless and has a wicked sense of humour in a letter titled ‘Chief Obasanjo – At war against his own deeds’. Former President Obasanjo is many things to many people, but he is all things unto himself.

For the life of me, I will never understand how former President Olusegun Obasanjo does it. When you think he is done, he has just begun.
I have watched in utter amusement how he has, yet again, wangled his way into the front page of newspapers on a daily basis. I don’t know of any other former HOS elsewhere who has turned himself into the subject and object of national attention long after he has left power.
Obasanjo is always there, always scheming, always screaming. It is his luck, I must say, but, as a mere mortal, I often wonder why some guys have all the luck. #PresidentialDebate2019
