My exclusive for @CNN: The rise of the Jeffrey Epstein mystique cnn.com/2019/08/13/pol…
Les Wexner’s letter alleging Jeffrey Epstein had "misappropriated” over $46 million from Wexner and his family more than a decade ago raised more questions than it answered: Did Wexner go to the authorities? And if not, why not? What was the nature of the two men's relationship?
Perhaps the biggest question is: Why had Les Wexner given Jeffrey Epstein so much control over his finances in the first place?
Epstein was a college drop-out when he was hired at the prestigious Dalton School as a math and physics teacher. He then joined Bear Sterns, but was asked to leave in the early 1980s and started his own investment firm.
It wasn’t until he befriended Les Wexner in the late 1980s that Epstein’s fortune really took off.

How exactly Epstein—with no college degree, no brokers' license, whose reputation as a financial savant seemed grounded not in any concrete evidence—got so rich remains unknown.
It remains striking that for someone of such wealth (his fortune was reportedly estimated at half a billion dollars) no one could ever truly say (including Epstein himself) how he actually made his money.
Epstein may be dead, but this case is not. While there are certainly secrets that died with him, some answers may yet come to light. Stay tuned…
