1. The struggle is a painful & exhausting experience. Never underestimate the smell of suffering and the burden of death. When you see comrades die before salvation you question the purpose. We have lost many comrades.
2. But sometimes we die while we live. We lose heart and say there is no point. We look at those we despise and think they are doing well. But the truth is they are troubled souls. They never sleep well. That’s why they walk with guns by their side even as they claim leadership.
3. We look at old comrades and ask, what happened to him or her? Fatigue happened. Fear happened. Greed happened. Unsureness happened. There is no struggle that doesn’t have chaps who gave up. The chaps who suddenly began to see good in the other & evil in old comrades.
4. The challenge is how long you can keep standing. For me the heroes are the ordinary men & women who have nothing but their pride in doing the right thing. How do you look them in the eye & say everything you said doesn’t matter anymore? How do you betray them & still live?
