I went to the El Paso, TX sector to see if the narrative the media has been portraying about the situation there was accurate.

What I learned shocked me.

The first step in finding out the true story at the border meant we needed to understand why there is an immigrant crisis.

"What pulls them into the US and what pushes them out of their country to come to the US"

While violence continues to push people out, they will continue to flee to US.

Every person I spoke to said they were not deterred by @realDonaldTrump's immigration policies.

The threats they face at home are far worse...

Coyotes use the turmoil in the US political system to exploit migrants.

Reportedly telling them that if they seek asylum at a legal port of entry, Mexican border police will stop them.

Resulting in migrants continuing to come into the US illegally.

And while @congressdotgov continues to fight over partisan issues, local residents are the ones that have stepped in to help the asylum seekers.

Volunteering their time, resources and energy...

All the while @CBP has been demonized in the #media.

I learned that people in the border town communities have done what elected officials won't.

They have put politics aside because the issue needs to be addressed before the situation gets worse.
