In June Jeffries dismissed impeachment, saying "the overwhelming majority of the caucus" isn't for it. Now the overwhelming majority (139 Ds) support it. Vulnerable members are getting grilled back home. Time to shift out of "if" mode and into "how/when." politico.com/story/2019/08/…
If the House impeaches Trump, he is impeached. The point is to state for future generations that Trump's conduct is unacceptable. Only impeachment achieves this. Anything else is normalization. History will not give much weight to outraged statements.
History records two presidents as being impeached, Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Neither was removed from office by the Senate. (Nixon resigned before being impeached.) Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution states that the House "shall have the sole power of Impeachment."
