Stumbled upon this snippet from a 1970 campaign speech by Spiro Agnew, Nixon's VP. Holy Southern Strategy, Batman!
Agnew notes that the Democrats won't come down to Georgia to campaign because they know how much they're disliked down there. "They know that the steps they’ve taken to reduce the South to a disinvolved citizenship within the national picture are not well received in Georgia."
He then notes that the Dems' "votes against Clement Haysworth & Harrold Carswell are not well received in the South.” Haysworth and Carswell were southerners nominated to the SCOTUS by Nixon, but who were rejected (in part) because of their history of pro-segregationist rulings.

@hannahgais The organizer of this email had, for many years, been the director of the Journalism program at the Koch-funded libertarian Institute for Humane Studies. This institute trained scores of journalists who went on to work for a variety of outlets.
@hannahgais All of the people who've been exposed in this piece wrote lengthy defenses of (or tepid apologies for) their participation in the "Morning hate" email group. Read their words. Then ask yourself what you would do if you saw an email like the ones included in the story.

Great primer on negative bond yields. Thread! There are a couple types of interest rates that can be negative. The ones that we are most interested in are 1) interest on reserves and 2) (market) yields on government and corporate bonds. 1/
For the first type: Interest on reserves relates to monetary policy by central banks (Fed, ECB, Bank of Japan). Every day, commercial banks in these countries have to decide what to do with the cash they hold on their balance sheets. 2/
Commercial banks are required to hold a certain amount of cash (required reserves) on their balance sheets at all times. The amount each bank must hold depends on the size and nature of that bank's liabilities. Some central banks pay interest on these reserves. 3/
