A Bay Area couple is having a RUFF Friday!

Apparently, the dog (seen behind the wheel) was left in the car with the leash on. The leash got stuck on the gear shift, & pulled the car in neutral, allowing it to roll down the street into the wall.

*insert bad driver joke here* 😉
The crash took out the mailbox and damaged the retaining wall, but thankfully no one was injured and the dog appears to be OK.

UPDATE: The joy-riding doggo is named Duke. No dogs or humans were hurt, but the trash cans have definitely seen better days.

firstly, teslas are EVERYWHERE in LA. you see them all over the place. LA is a market with a lot of buyers of expensive cars where people choose to flaunt affluence in an automotive fashion in a manner more extreme than just about anywhere in the US save possibly miami
it is also home to some of the worst traffic this side of, well, anywhere. the one cheat code in all this traffic is the HOV lane. the carpool lane really is faster by a noticeable amount. as we were two, our rented altima was allowed to share this rarefied air with the EV's

tl;dr: Total compensation for the largest companies is often >300k. If this surprises you, you might find @patio11 's take useful.
Some thoughts: 1/8
First, there's much discussion on HN about how startups can compete with this level of compensation. Probably the best answer is they shouldn't. And I don't mean start-ups should pay less and make up the difference with stories, promises and dreams. 2/8
The biggest tech companies are milking market opportunities worth billions. Software engineering has diseconomies of scale, so they can't simply hire two people and pay them 50% each. Developers are therefore simply worth more to big companies. 3/8

The software had some maybe unsurprising classification problems and couldn't decide on a maneuver:
