We are terrifying and traumatizing a generation of children.

Is there any sacrifice too great for the rest of us to make for gun owners' "right" to avoid basic regulation?

When Active-Shooter Drills Scare the Children They Hope to Protect nyti.ms/2HOEhHY
2/ I'm serious about this. We have children being shot down in their classrooms. We have others who escape, recalling forever the moments when they sat, terrified, hoping the shooter would not find them.
3/ We have millions of kids thinking hard about how to confront imminent death, at a time when they should be thinking about soccer or their next Hallowe'en costume or how best to torment their siblings.
4/ Not to mention the more "ordinary" shootings and suicides, and the unspeakable damage that each of them leaves behind.
5/ All this is apparently not enough to get enough gun owners to say: you know what? I'm OK with universal background checks, red flag laws, limits on magazine size (IS IT A MAGAZINE OR A CLIP? I DON'T CARE!!!), and other basic regulation.
6/ Not to mention more serious constraints, like a national licensing system, a requirement that gun owners carry insurance against the misuse of their guns, and prosecution of people whose guns are stolen and used to kill people. (Including by their small children.)
7/ So I want to know: is there ANYTHING that these gun owners (the ones who oppose basic, common-sense regulation) would not be prepared to ask of the rest of us, including SMALL CHILDREN?

Are there ANY limits to the sacrifices the rest of us should be asked to bear?
8/ If so, what are they? Because the fact that we haven't run into them yet is genuinely shocking.

(Every so often I make myself consider the fact that we didn't enact serious gun control regulations after Sandy Hook. That should NEVER not be shocking.)
