A constant across Administrations both (D) and (R) is the politicization of the National Weather Service (NWS).

Whether it's budgets, hiring freezes, or the most recent Dorian controversy, for its tiny footprint within the U.S. gov't, the NWS surely generates a lot of news.
The Obama admin was no picnic for the NWS.
Staffing shortages extended into Trump admin but finally eased as hiring freeze lifted. NWS union said the agency was "on the brink of failure.

Considerable progress has been made in last 2 years ...

As we witnessed, an errant Tweet exploded into "Sharpie-gate". Question: does Trump see NOAA/NWS as being at fault for the firestorm -- and will this mean lasting damage in relationship b/t White House & NOAA/NWS?
From Trump's week-long Tweet storm on "Alabama" and "Dorian", it was clear who he was attacking: the media, alternating between CNN, Washington Post and NY Times.
That narrative persisted until the NOAA comms office put out a ridiculous statement on NWS Birmingham.
