Sebastian gets a huge amount of shit for telling Ariel to stay under the sea, but then when she goes on her boat date he is ALL IN on getting her kissed if not fully laid.

Sebastian is a SUPPORTIVE MENTOR who is capable of course correction AS CHANGING CIRCUMSTANCES DICTATE.

I don’t even think this is a hot take — Flounder brings nothing to the table.

Flounder is the Milhouse of the ocean.

My assessment is that Flounder’s feelings for Ariel were not sexual but this was due to his prepubescence and that relationship was for sure on a trajectory that would leave them both hurt.

Sebastian’s claim, however, that pet fish inevitably get eaten was WAY off base and I don’t think should be validated by the happenstance of him encountering an (outlier) French chef who was coincidentally a psychopath.

Flounder would have eventually made the intellectual argument that he was a more logical sexual partner than Prince Eric.

Scuttle is a wildcard.

Scuttle is 45 years old at least. The only comparable real world relationship is weed dealer.

Sebastian is Ariel’s only true ally and the beauty and tragedy is that children cannot see adults that way until they are adults themselves
