/ Some Microsoft employees are anonymously adding their salary information to a private spreadsheet in an effort toward greater pay transparency. Here are 4 takeaways, based on a leaked copy of the document we received. onezero.medium.com/leak-of-micros…
/ Seniority at Microsoft is supposedly ranked on a scale from level 59 to 80. An employee is hired onto one level and can be promoted onto another. Those levels determine pay more than any other factor—including years of experience and time at the company.
/ As employees progress to higher levels, more of their compensation comes in the form of stock. At Level 66, Microsoft employees reported that nearly 40% of compensation was in the form of cash and stock bonuses.
/ Employees say that a fairly common tactic to increase their pay is to leave Microsoft to work at another Seattle company like Amazon, or even a startup, and then jump to a higher level when returning to Microsoft.
/ The typical Indian coder who filled out the spreadsheet makes over three times less than Americans with similar experience. It’s unclear whether the level system is equal across the entire company, or whether levels fluctuate based on location.
/ Here’s what else we learned about Microsoft salaries from the leaked spreadsheet: onezero.medium.com/leak-of-micros…
