Okay, #cosplay peeps. I gotta tell you about a bunch of messages I’ve gotten over the last few days on my Facebook. It involves wigs. So this guy saw a picture of my Hermione cosplay, & he told me he was going to go through the Studio tour in Leavesden & wanted a wig temporarily.
So, me being polite, suggested looking into maybe renting a wig or purchasing a cheap one near there. He proceeds to tell me that if cosplayers invested in good, quality wigs they could make a good living by loaning out their wigs to people.
I explain that no #cosplayer is going to just loan out their wigs to just anyone. And he says in response: “I don’t see why not, their wigs are not exactly quality.” 😬
I ignore this at first, and I explain that wigs are a pretty personal item. That we sometimes wear our wigs for 8+ hours at a show. We spend hours of our time styling and maintaining them. And I also say that I’m not going to just let someone I do not know borrow my wig.
Not to mention the fact that most of us have spent TONS of money on our wigs.
So then he says, “I don’t see the attachment to some worthless plastic though and trust issues is a really bad way to live.”
So at this point I am personally offended. He’s basically called my wigs worthless. He’s called my gorgeous, beautifully made @ArdaWigs worthless plastic. Like, what the hell, dude?
But you know what? I remain polite, and I apologize that he’s unable to afford a good wig. I get it; they’re expensive. And I reiterate that I’m not going to loan out my wig. And he just keeps...going. 😂😂😂
Him: “The wigs to buy are expensive but the ones most cosplayers by aren’t in the same league so not sure the clinging of them.”
Me:
So, I start to defend myself & other cosplayers, saying that: I don’t buy the cheap wigs typically, most of mine are quality lacefront wigs that I save for. And we also spend tons of time styling & maintaining our wigs, “cheap” or otherwise. And that our time is not worthless.
Then he plays the “going green” card. Saying that, “You think I believe that, they are plastic and surely the planet needs less products trying to be something they’re not.”

Now at this point I’m just tired of this conversation...
So I say, “Look, I’m not going to loan out my wig to you. I’m sorry. Right now you’re basically calling my wigs worthless, which is rude.” He doesn’t appear to like this & proceeds to insult me again.
He goes: “Well if you created characters you’d know what looks real and what doesn’t, cosplayers cut corners and don’t look believable so that’s just the hobby that doesn’t allow realistic investment.”
Like...realistic investment??? Does he not realize that we have to care for our wigs and use them time and time again? And that we reuse them in DIFFERENT cosplays? 😂😂😂
So at this point I’m just done, and I drop this: “Then if you don’t like the look of my characters...why are you asking to borrow my wig?” 🤔🤔🤔
He goes: “Yes it looks fake but it’s a good thing to try on for 1 day until I can buy something that passes as believable hair.”

I just reiterate that that is not gonna happen. And he says that I’ve made that clear. But he “just thought [he’d] help [me] take hobbies seriously.”
So I end the conversation with:
“I do take my hobbies seriously. I just don’t see the value in loaning out my wigs.

Have a good day.”
But of course, he HAS to have the last word and goes: “By not knowing what a character has on their head.”
By then I’m just really done, so I ban him because I don’t have time for that kind of behavior on my page.

But, there you go, folks...after 6 years of cosplaying I got my first hater. 😂
Thank you all for listening and I hope you found this as entertaining and weird as I did!
