Not discussed enough: the insane idea that @SFBART has that a different colored stripe across the top wall of the downtown stations is the best way for riders to ID which station they are at.
I mean a stencil and some spray paint could make this whole problem go away @BevanDufty
Also the colors themselves are confusing. What do they indicate? I imagine visitors puzzling over the red/yellow/blue/green maps are really thrown off. “Plum??? Am I on the right train?”
A city full of information designers should be able to improve on this.
Proper signage is a hill I will die on. Makes life less stressful, more efficient, safer.
Ok even old Frisco hands like @mat don’t know what I’m talking about. Here’s the plum stripe at Montgomery stop. If your train stops just so, you *might* see the sign.
Why is Montgomery plum? Why is Powell orange? What color is at Embarcadero (I never go there)? Why can’t the name of the station be on top of the stripe more than one every 50 yards or so? All good questions. @hknightsf @peterhartlaub @chrisarvinsf @burritojustice
If nobody understands your wayfinding marks, they are not working. @SFBART
PS: Public transit is a public good, cuts traffic and emissions, please use it. Just think there are some pretty easy signage improvements that @SFBART can make to make it more accessible to all.
